IKMAL received a written complaint from an IKMAL Member on a case relating to wrongful dismissal.
Below is the chronology:
On Saturday, 16th July 2016 the Sec Gen of IKMAL received a written complaint from an IKMAL Member on a case relating to wrongful dismissal. IKMAL’s Council discussed the matter & obtained all necessary written evidence from the Member.
On Monday, 18th July 2016, a call was made by IKMAL’s Sec Gen to the company’s Senior HR Manager seeking explanation.
On Thurday, 21st July 2016 IKMAL’s Sub Committee on MLC/Seafarers’ Welfare met and had a telephone discussion with the IKMAL Member.
We were informed that the company had written to him indicating that he is STILL in the company’s employment and that the earlier notice was only an “advance advisory”.
IKMAL will still pursue the case with the company, seeking compensation for not providing notice as indicated in the Seafarers’ Employment Agreement (SEA) when sending the Member the “advance advisory” note.
